A twin screw extruder is a continuous, high-temperature short-time reactor. Feed it grain and it will cook, shear, texturise and shape in a single pass measured in seconds, with the screw profile and die doing what would otherwise take four separate machines.
It produces cereal products and extruded, corn, rice, millet, ragi, sorghum, maize-rice and multigrain snacks; ready to eat extruded snacks, breakfast and puffed cereals, millet breakfast cereal, flavoured and high protein snacks; and ready to cook instant cereal mixes, extruded flour, instant porridge, baby food cereal base and instant millet products. Where configuration allows, it also makes textured vegetable protein and high fibre extrudates.
Because extrusion cooks and sterilises in one step, it is the cleanest route to a shelf stable weaning cereal or instant porridge: categories with real margin and real regulatory scrutiny.
